Tour du Mont Blanc: Introduction

The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is a popular circular long distance footpath. This is a ten days walk around the Mont Blanc massif that passes through France, Italy and Switzerland.
The best time is from July untill September, however during the first two months the route is rather crowded. You will need to make reservations for the nights in one of the many accomodations. In June parts of the route are still snow covered. In October it is also possible to do the tour, but the daytime is much shorter than.
Because the route goes through different countries, the route is not universally waymarked. In France the route is waymarked with the well known white-red GR-stripes. In Italy the route is marked with a yellow diamond with TMB in black in the middle. In Switserland there is no uniform way of signing the route, but the signs are clear enough since most of the time the characters TMB are used.
